What are the bristles made of and are they biodegradeable?

Most of our bamboo toothbrushes are made with recyclable nylon bristles, combined with 63% plant-based material. Our ‘natural’ brush heads feature bamboo or charcoal fibres and nylon 6 – unfortunately, there is currently no 100% biodegradable, plant-based alternative available in the marketplace (despite what some vendors may claim). We refuse to source animal hair as an option either. The bristles are designed to be recycled at any centre that processes nylon and we urge you to check your local authorities for more information. We aim to create a completely biodegradable and natural toothbrush head soon – rest assured we will switch to this option as soon as it becomes available!

Are the bristles held in with glue or staples?

It doesn’t! We don’t use glue or metal staples in our toothbrushes, we just use pressure to attach the bristles. This is why the brush is more eco-friendly! However, due to the way the bristles are attached, they may occasionally fall out, but this is a very rare occurrence. If they do, let us know.

Are the bristles soft, medium or hard?

Whether brisltes hard, medium or soft, we have them all on our website, but not all colours are available in all strengths.

Can you recycle the used brush or put in the regular bin?

The toothbrush can biodegrade and be put into the home or commercial compost, but the bristles need to be removed and disposed of in general waste or recycled at a facility that recycles nylon. After pulling out the bristles, you can put the handle in compost and it will return to the soil in about 6 months. The handle can also be reused for creative purposes; they are useful for marking seedlings in the garden, for instance.
